Last week, Garrison Law partner Josh Goodbaum was an invited participant at a roundtable discussion with U.S. Senator Chris Murphy and several physicians and policymakers about how non-competition agreements not only affect employees in the medical field, but also reduce patient healthcare access and affordability.
According to policymakers, two major health systems – Hartford HealthCare and Yale New Haven Health – own a majority of Connecticut’s hospitals and physician practices, making it difficult for healthcare professionals bound by non-compete agreements to seek new positions with other providers.
Connecticut law regulates non-competes for physicians and some other healthcare workers, but the physicians in attendance at the roundtable said that the restrictions are not tight enough.
Senator Murphy has introduced bipartisan legislation, the Workforce Mobility Act, that would almost completely ban non-compete clauses in employment contracts.
