On September 9, Garrison, Levin-Epstein, Fitzgerald & Pirrotti, P.C. Partner Joshua Goodbaum presented oral argument before the Connecticut Supreme Court. Josh represented defendant Wayne King as assigned counsel through the Office of the Chief Public Defender. Mr. King was convicted of driving under the influence and was appealing his sentence, which was enhanced based on his prior DUI convictions in Florida. The case concerns the legal standard sentencing courts should use to determine whether out-of-state convictions can be considered for the purposes of sentencing enhancement under section 14-227a(g) of the General Statutes.

A decision in the case – State v. King (SC 20588) – is not expected for several months.
