Garrison, Levin-Epstein, Fitzgerald & Pirrotti, P.C. partner Josh Goodbaum was recently quoted in a CT Mirror article discussing Connecticut non-compete agreements.
The article covers Connecticut and federal legislative and regulatory proposals to limit non-compete agreements and the varying viewpoints concerning the issue. The article quotes Josh, who has advocated for efforts to restrict non-compete agreements, as saying, “I’m not sure there’s any evidence that non-compete agreements promote competition and innovation.”
The article goes on to discuss the negative impacts non-compete agreements can have on employees. As Josh said, “[Non-competes] keep people from leaving their jobs. . . . They are tied to wage stagnation. Non-competes cost workers money.”
While many of Connecticut’s neighboring states have statutes and regulations that govern non-compete agreements, Connecticut does not. “I really think this is a serious problem in the state of Connecticut up and down the economy, not just because non-competes are unfair in many situations but because there’s such a marked lack of clarity about [whether] a non-compete would be enforceable,” Josh said.
Josh has successfully represented many Connecticut employees who are evaluating or challenging non-compete agreements and other restrictive covenants.
