In 2021, a bill establishing the federal holiday of Juneteenth was passed by Congress and signed by President Biden. Celebrated on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when the last enslaved Black people in the United States learned they had been freed by President Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 Emancipation Proclamation.
In 2022, the Connecticut General Assembly made Juneteenth a Connecticut State Holiday as well, starting in 2023.
This year, we observe Juneteenth on Monday, June 20. As Garrison, Levin-Epstein, Fitzgerald, & Pirrotti, P.C. is closed today to celebrate Juneteenth, we also recognize the important work that continues in the fight for equality for all Americans. We wish everyone a happy Juneteenth!
