Garrison, Levin-Epstein, Fitzgerald & Pirrotti, P.C. Named Labor & Employment Litigation Department of the Year 2021 by the Connecticut Law Tribune

May 12 2021

Garrison, Levin-Epstein, Fitzgerald & Pirrotti, P.C. has been named the 2021 Connecticut Litigation Department of the Year for Labor & Employment at the Connecticut Law Tribune’s annual Connecticut Legal Awards.

Our firm had an extraordinary year in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. We settled huge and important cases, protected a phenomenal trial win, published several articles, were featured on television, spoke virtually to audiences around the country, and became a fully functioning office with our staff and some attorneys working from home. So how did we do all that?

It’s because we thrive as an employment law firm that focuses on representing Connecticut employees who have been wronged by their employers. In addition to securing a $1.75 million settlement on behalf of a Connecticut state employee who was subjected to workplace sexual harassment and assault and winning a trial verdict of more than $1.8 million on behalf of physician in a breach of contract case, our confidential results this year included two sexual harassment settlements of approximately $500,000 each; a disability discrimination settlement worth nearly $400,000; and a retaliation settlement worth approximately $1 million.

While the skillset we use often falls into the same categories – counseling, negotiating, or litigating – the scope of our caseload is vast: from discrimination and harassment to whistleblowers to contract disputes to wage and hour work. And because we are leaders in nearly every field of employment law, we are recognized as such:

  • All six of our partners are recognized by 2020 Connecticut Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America. Joe Garrison was named Top 50 on the Connecticut Super Lawyers list, and Nina Pirrotti was selected for the Top 25 Women Connecticut Super Lawyers.
  • Nina was named 2020 Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year” in the New Haven area for Employment Law – Individuals. Steve Fitzgerald has received Lawyer of the Year for Litigation – Labor and Employment for six years in a row. Our firm also received Best Lawyers Tier 1 rankings for Arbitration, Criminal Defense: General Practice, Criminal Defense: White Collar, Employment Law – Individuals, and Litigation – Labor & Employment.
  • Five partners were selected to LawDragon’s 500 Leading Plaintiff Employment Lawyers Guide for 2020 – which lists the 500 best employee rights lawyers in America.

This is the second time Garrison, Levin-Epstein has won the Connecticut Labor & Employment Litigation Department of the Year award, having previously received the award in 2015.

The Connecticut Legal Awards honors those attorneys, judges, and law firms who have made a remarkable difference in the legal profession in Connecticut – whether by shaping the law, achieving outsized results for their clients, being an outstanding jurist, assisting those in need of legal services, or a combination of those factors. (You can see the full list of honorees here.)

    Client Experiences

You will never meet a more knowledgeable and compassionate professional than Steve Fitzgerald. My employment situation was very complex, and Attorney Fitzgerald kept me focused while remaining extremely adept and “thinking on his feet.” Should the need present itself again, I would never seek anyone else’s counsel regarding employment issues. I cannot recommend him highly enough. — J.R., New Haven, CT

Nina Pirrotti provided outstanding legal advice and was trustworthy, dependable, and responsive. From the start, I was confident that her knowledge and experience would obtain favorable results. On a more personal note, I enjoyed working with her and her staff and felt I was included in every part of the process. The dedication, concern, and interest in me as a client was greatly appreciated, and Nina has earned my highest recommendation. — J.H., Monroe, CT

Josh Goodbaum truly outperformed my expectations. He was calm and steadfast throughout the entire process. He is a great communicator. Together, we were able to lay out a plan that in the end, not only got myself the outcome I was hoping for, but undoubtedly saved me valuable time and money as well. I cannot thank Josh and his firm enough for coming through for me in this time of uncertainty and stress.  — D.T.

When I go to a lawyer for advice, I am usually anxious, particularly the first meeting. Amanda DeMatteis was clear in describing my options and immediately set me at ease. Realistic assessment is important, and Amanda was clear as to how to set up the case and the direction she felt we should go. I had total confidence in her abilities and knew I was being well represented against a large corporation. More importantly, we were successful! — N.M., Haddam, CT
